Rana, currently serving as Joint Convener of Cox’s Bazar City Chhatra Dal, has been actively involved in student politics for many years. His political journey began as the General Secretary of Ward No. 11 (South Baharchhara) Chhatra Dal. Over time, he held several important positions, including President of the Management Department unit of City College Chhatra Dal and later Senior Joint Secretary of the same organization.

Party sources said Rana also served as the designated office secretary representative for Cox’s Bazar District Chhatra Dal during a nationwide workshop organized in 2021 by BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman.

Alongside politics, Rana has also maintained a strong academic background. He completed his Honors degree in Management from Cox’s Bazar City College and has recently completed his Master’s final examinations.

Active Role in Street Politics

Leaders and activists from different organizational units say Rana has gained popularity at the grassroots level due to his active presence in the field, close relationship with party workers, and participation in various political programs.

According to party activists, Rana remained active on the streets even during politically challenging times. His involvement in protest movements, student rights campaigns, and organizational activities helped him earn the trust of ordinary workers.

On October 28, 2023, following police action during BNP’s grand rally in Dhaka, Rana led one of the first instant protest processions in Cox’s Bazar city in support of the nationwide strike program. Party insiders also praised his role during the anti-discrimination student movement.

Grassroots Expectation for New Leadership

Many grassroots activists believe the organization now needs young, worker-friendly, and field-oriented leadership to strengthen its activities. From that perspective, many see Rahim Ullah Khan Rana as a capable and widely accepted candidate for the president position.

However, no official decision has yet been announced regarding the new committee. Party sources said the leadership will be finalized based on central directives and organizational evaluations.
